Miriam Martinez was born in San Pedro Hueyahualco, a small rural town south of Mexico City, Mexico in 1978. She grew up in a small community that was rich in culture and traditions. As a result her art work is a blend of the traditional Mexican folk art that she grew up with and her own personal experiences as a female immigrant.

In 2004 she graduated from Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Illustration. She currently resides in San Francisco, California.

Artist Statement:
I illustrate colorful anecdotes from my childhood using unique imagery that many find intriguing. It is a way of connecting myself with my past and being able to share it with those who are unfamiliar with the Mexican culture. I want to keep my culture and traditions alive in my paintings!
